Richard specialises in project management and heads up our Planning and Development Team. With over 20 years experience, he has delivered many wide ranging projects from design through to completion.
Richard is particularly skilled in building technology and specification, and regularly acts as Expert Witness for building disputes.
John heads up and supports the practice with surveying services, including building surveys, defect analysis, dilapidations and reinstatement cost assessments. He also has notable experience in specifying and managing both new build and refurbishment projects.
Tony has vast experience in inspecting properties throughout Cornwall and the South West and specialises in building surveys and defects analysis. He became part of our team in 1994 and is well known and respected in the area.
Robert Portman joined the RTP team in 2020 as a Chartered Building Surveyor. Robert has been working in the industry since 2014 and has a wide variety of experience across all sectors of building surveying. Robert was promoted to Associate Director in 2022, with a focus on running the planning and development team. Robert thoroughly enjoys working with clients to achieve their vision of refurbishment, extensions, and new build properties. Robert is also heavily involved in defects and maintenance side of the business and has a wealth of experience in diagnosing and remediating challenging defects on properties. Robert graduated with a building surveying degree from Plymouth University in 2014 and passed his APC, becoming a full member of the RICS in 2019. Outside of working hours Robert enjoys mountain biking and body boarding in the amazing Cornish scenery.
Laura has over 15 years experience undertaking surveys, completing design work and managing projects for residential and commercial properties, predominantly in Cornwall. Since joining RTP in 2025 Laura is focussed on developing the commercial property side of the business, specialising in Design, Project Management/Contract Administration, Dilapidations, Reinstatement Cost Assessments and Planned Preventative Maintenance Surveys. She has a client-focused approach with a strong belief in clear, transparent communication.
Laura is passionate about supporting candidates through their APC to become chartered members of the RICS and is also an RICS Assessor.
Martin has a wealth of experience spanning the full spectrum of surveying services. He oversees the design, specification and management of some of our most complex projects, including historic properties. Martin joined RTP in 1990 and runs our Bodmin office, which he established as part of our initial expansion.
Richard supports the practice with a wide range of professional services, including building surveys, defects analysis and dilapidations. He also has a keen eye for architectural design and has overseen many projects from design through to completion over the years. Richard also has notable experience in acting as an Expert Witness. He is our former Director in charge and founded RTP Surveyors in 1986.
Sue is our health and safety expert and CDM consultant. She holds a NEBOSH Construction Safety Certificate (Level 3), an MPhil in Fire Safety, and is also a highly experienced Chartered Building Surveyor.
With a varied background in both industry and academia, Sue joined us in 2008 and still maintains her relationship with the education sector to lead essential continued professional development for our team.
Liam has over a decade of experience as a building contractor working in France, Canada and the UK. Since moving to Cornwall he has continued to develop his building surveying skillset, currently working towards his APC as a Chartered Building Surveyor. Liam is a Registered Valuer and specialises in Building Surveys, Planning and Development and Project Management.
Joanna has over nine years’ experience in the property industry and has worked on a wide range of building surveying instructions across the South West. She has delivered services to clients in both the public and private sectors, including healthcare, central government, MOD and financial institutions. Joanna enjoys collaborating with clients managing large property portfolios, establishing strategies that deliver efficient refurbishments and developments with value and impact.
Having completed work experience at RTP over 10 years ago, Joanna is pleased to have returned to the practice full circle, bringing with her a broad range of experience and a strong track record of successful project delivery. She passed her APC and became a full member of the RICS in 2020.
At RTP, Joanna is focused on developing the commercial property side of the business, specialising in Design, Project Management / Contract Administration, Dilapidations and wider commercial survey work.
Outside of work, Joanna enjoys gig rowing and exploring the Cornish coastline with friends and family.
Following a career as a Navigation Officer in the Merchant Navy, Hannah pursued a land-based career in property working in various sectors, most recently as a domestic energy assessor. Hannah has recently graduated a Masters in Building Surveying with distinction and is currently studying the APC programme towards MRICS chartership.
Amy has a wide variety of experience in the property industry. She is currently studying on the SAVA Residential Building and Valuation Course and once completed will be an AssocRICS member of RICS as well as an RICS Registered Valuer. Amy has a keen interest in Valuation, Pre-purchase surveys, Condition Surveys and the Party Wall Act.
Having successfully completed his First Class Honours Degree in Building Surveying at the University of the West of England, Jake is currently working through the APC programme towards his RICS Chartership. Jake has a keen interest in historic buildings having assisted with numerous projects on Listed Buildings across Cornwall and Devon. During his studies Jake also completed research on a range of sustainable construction methods and tools.
Before moving to Cornwall almost 20 years ago, Paul worked extensively in London and the surrounding areas providing architectural and interior design support to various residential and commercial properties. Since living in Cornwall he has undertaken many freelance projects and before joining RTP Surveyors worked with other local architectural practices and undertaken various projects including extensions, refurbishments and new builds.
Paul’s interests are varied and include design, architecture and visual arts related with photography, music and books also being an important part of his life.
Neil has worked across a broad variety of project sectors from inception through to completion, ranging in budget from £70,000 – £5.0m, with over 25 years of extensive experience in the Residential Sector and has a broad level of experience in all sectors. Neil became a Chartered member of the Chartered Institute Architectural of Technologists in 2012.
Neil specialises in Sustainable Design, Conservation and all aspect of Architectural Technical Design. Neil has substantial experience in Principal Designers Duties under CDM 2015 and the Building Regulations. Neil is currently applying to become qualified as a CIAT Registered Principal Designer with the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.
Sara leads all aspects of finance and accounting for the practice. She’s been a crucial part of our team since 2005 and is the first port of call for invoicing and payments. Sara also provides admin support to the team.
Tamsin is our Survey and Administration Manager. Extremely organised, she is the first port of call for all of the Survey enquiries, appointments and administration duties. Tamsin also organises various events and training for the team.
As Practice Manager, Julie headed up our admin team and looked after the operation of all the RTP team. Highly efficient and experienced, she kept everything working smoothly.
Julie unfortunately passed away in October 2025 and will be greatly missed.
