Falmouth Town Council took a brave decision to acquire the historical post office building in the centre of town, to stop it becoming more residential development and instead provide space for public meetings and delivery of municipal services.

We were brought onboard to advise the client on the technical aspects of converting the upper floor into offices and a function suite, and design the One Stop Shop and council offices on the ground floor. The alteration and extension presented some real challenges, including widening stairs to provide adequate means of escape and, to make the building fully accessible, working out how to install a new lift through the solid concrete floors.
It wasn’t a straightforward project, but the client is thrilled to now have new, modern offices for the Council staff and an asset that generates an income, all whilst protecting the future of this locally important building.
