Richard supports the practice with a wide range of professional services, including building surveys, defects analysis and dilapidations. He also has a keen eye for architectural design and has overseen many projects from design through to completion over the years. Richard also has notable experience in acting as an Expert Witness. He is our former Director in charge and founded RTP Surveyors in 1986.

Rob PortmanBSc (Hons) MRICSAssociate Director

Robert Portman joined the RTP team in 2020 as a Chartered Building Surveyor. Robert has been working in the industry since 2014 and has a wide variety of experience across all sectors of building surveying. Robert was promoted to Associate Director in 2022, with a focus on running the planning and development team. Robert thoroughly enjoys working with clients to achieve their vision of refurbishment, extensions, and new build properties. Robert is also heavily involved in defects and maintenance side of the business and has a wealth of experience in diagnosing and remediating challenging defects on properties. Robert graduated with a building surveying degree from Plymouth University in 2014 and passed his APC, becoming a full member of the RICS in 2019. Outside of working hours Robert enjoys mountain biking and body boarding in the amazing Cornish scenery.

Sue is our health and safety expert and CDM consultant. She holds a NEBOSH Construction Safety Certificate (Level 3), an MPhil in Fire Safety, and is also a highly experienced Chartered Building Surveyor.

With a varied background in both industry and academia, Sue joined us in 2008 and still maintains her relationship with the education sector to lead essential continued professional development for our team.

Before moving to Cornwall almost 20 years ago, Paul worked extensively in London and the surrounding areas providing architectural and interior design support to various residential and commercial properties. Since living in Cornwall he has undertaken many freelance projects and before joining RTP Surveyors worked with other local architectural practices and undertaken various projects including extensions, refurbishments and new builds.

Paul’s interests are varied and include design, architecture and visual arts related with photography, music and books also being an important part of his life.
